Joe Elliott, ADHD Coach: Turning Diagnosis into a Force for Change
For years, Joe Elliott- a CPD Qualified ADHD Coach battled severe ADHD before he even knew what the condition was. School in the United Kingdom was a disaster, corporate life was a constant battle with burnout, and addiction nearly took him down. Then he discovered the truth: ADHD wasn’t the problem, it was the key. And now, he’s coaching others to harness their own neurodivergence and turn chaos into success.
The Early Chaos: ADHD Unleashed
Picture a classroom in the 90s. Joe is bouncing in his seat, cracking jokes, and chasing dopamine like it’s an Olympic sport. Teachers told him to “apply himself.” He tried, but traditional education wasn’t built for ADHD brains. He scraped through school, only passing subjects that actually held his interest. Sound familiar?
As a young adult, life didn’t get easier. To keep himself focused, he turned to cannabis before class just to sit still. Without an ADHD diagnosis, he had no idea why his brain worked the way it did, only that it didn’t seem to function the way people expected.
Climbing the Corporate Ladder (While Barely Holding It Together)
Joe didn’t take the straight-and-narrow path. He stumbled into sales and marketing, but also worked as a chef in the French Alps, commentated at the Street Child World Cup in Rio, and even volunteered as a medic’s aid after a volcanic eruption in Guatemala in 2018.
In corporate life, he became a force to be reckoned with. Within a month of starting as a street fundraiser, he was the top national performer. That success snowballed into leading award-winning commercial teams at The Guardian and other major organisations.
From the outside, Joe had “made it.” But inside, the reality was different: burnout, addiction, impulsive decisions, and constant self-doubt.
ADHD doesn’t just disappear because you land a high-paying job. If anything, corporate pressure magnified its challenges, procrastination, emotional dysregulation, and feeling like he was always just about to drop the ball. He self-medicated with anything that would keep his brain in check, but nothing worked long-term.
Rock Bottom and the ADHD Diagnosis That Changed Everything
The breaking point came in 2014 when Joe was sectioned for mental health struggles. Misdiagnosed multiple times, given the wrong medications, and still battling addiction, he couldn’t find answers. Until a psychiatrist friend suggested something unexpected: “Have you ever considered that you might have ADHD?”
At 33, Joe was officially diagnosed with severe ADHD.
It was the turning point. He finally had answers. Medication was life-changing, helping him regulate emotions, focus, and retain information for the first time ever. But that was just the beginning, now, he needed a plan to rebuild his life.
The Birth of Elevate Up: From Chaos to Coaching
Joe didn’t just want to understand ADHD, he wanted to master it. He researched more in a few months than he had in his entire university degree. He learned that ADHD wasn’t a curse, it was a force for change. When channelled correctly, it gave him an edge in creativity, leadership, and problem-solving.
Determined to help others avoid the years of struggle he endured, he trained as an ADHD coach through CPD-certified ADHD Works and launched Elevate Up. His mission?

- Free ADHD talks in schools – Because kids shouldn’t have to wait until their 30s for a diagnosis.
